Topics

The BA (Hons) Top-up programme includes 4 compulsory modules of study.
Each module has a completion timeframe of six months.

    • Module 1 - Advanced Practice
This module offers a deep dive into the interior design process, guiding students through real-world project briefs. Students will analyse client objectives, conduct market research, and create concept boards to explore design ideas. Through critical analysis, students will refine their chosen project, incorporating feedback and additional research. The final stage includes producing professional presentation boards with CAD drawings, rendered perspectives, and material selections, etc, leading to a complete design proposal that balances commercial viability, aesthetic quality, and user experience.
    • Module 2 - Dissertation
In this module, students will be supported to develop topics and research questions, understand research design, and explore research methods suited to visual studies, including content analysis, discourse analysis, and semiotics. The differences between qualitative and quantitative research and primary and secondary research techniques are examined, with insights into how each can be applied effectively within the context of graphic design inquiry. Academic writing, referencing styles, analysis of research findings and academic conventions are covered. Students will also gain skills in independent research practice.
    • Module 3 - Major Project Ideation and Development
In this module, students explore every stage of the interior design process, from selecting and analysing a site, to developing creative concepts and engaging with clients. Lessons cover spatial and environmental analysis, research-based ideation, and audience considerations, fostering a student’s ability to create tailored designs. Students learn to collaborate with subject matter specialists and present work effectively through a professional portfolio. Throughout the module, hands-on assignments, peer feedback, and case studies support the building of practical skills and forming of a strong foundation in design practice.
    • Module 4 - Major Project Implementation

In this module, students will develop and present interior design projects by creating draft and final versions of floor plans, elevations, and sections, as well as detailed construction drawings. Students will produce specification sheets focusing on sustainable materials and ensure compliance with industry regulations.

Students will also learn to manage projects effectively, covering timelines, budgets, and risk assessments. The module culminates in a video presentation where students showcase final design, technical documentation, and project management skills, emphasising professional communication and visual storytelling.
